Question by M T: What type of of questions should I be asking suppliers and distributors when pitching my promotional idea?
I have an idea for a promotional product (not looking to promote online though i had to choose “search engine optimization”). I am currently researching how the industry works and what are the steps to bring this idea into the promotional product market. It is currently simply an idea and I have yet to develop a prototype. I have no indutry background in promotional items but am dedicating myself full-time to this endeavour. Is there a high risk of a supplier or distributor of copying my idea while I’m researching the industry? I’ve been fairly secretive up till now not too release any major details since I don’t have a patent and am not too sure if a patent is viable. I am visiting a local b-to-b trade show this week. Is there any key questions that I should be asking promotioal suppliers or distributors in regards to my idea? Is it possible to manufacture and distribute your own product considering I have no background in this industry?
I thank you for all your suggestions.

Take some business or marketing classes at a university extension program… or hire a marketing expert.
